Services for William Ray Walls, 88, of Gilmer, will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at 2 P.M. at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home Chapel with Carey Ponder officiating. Burial will be in Glade Creek Cemetery. Born on December 22, 1925, he died on Thursday, June 26, 2014. He was a veteran and Staff Sergeant of the United States Army, a welder, and a member and deacon of the Glade Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Odessa Walls of Gilmer; 4 sons, Billy Ray Walls of Coppers Cove, Jarol Walls of Lakeport, Jackie Shirey of Pritchett, David Shirey of Hayensville, LA; 6 daughters, Carol Smith of Alvin, Cheryl Hodges of Union Grove, Debra Gates of Woodville, Lisa Stockton of Jones Creek, Brenda Benge of Union Grove, and Patty Shirey of Union Grove; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren;1 sister, Emma Dishongh of Deer Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Eva Walls; 3 brothers, Dudley Walls, Eddie Walls, and Wylie Walls; and 2 sisters, Jewell Liedtke and Mary Lou Hill. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 P.M. on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer. Online condolences can be left at www.grubbsloydfhgilmer.com
