Obituary for Weldon H. Newsom

Services for Weldon H. Newsom, 98, of Ore City will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Ore City First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Doug Smith and Reverend David Williamson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Diana. Interment will be at Ore City Cemetery. He passed away September 20, 2020 at his home.

Weldon was born May 23, 1922 in Ore City, Texas to William Albert and Ethel Loraine Newsom. Upon graduation from Gilmer High School, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps Southwest Pacific Theatre. When he returned to Ore City he became a U.S. Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Post Office for over 30 years. In 1952 he married the love of his life Rosie Boone Newsom. Weldon was a long time member of the Ore City Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Ashland and Ore City Masonic Lodges, the Sharon Shriners and of the First United Methodist Church, Ore City.

Weldon is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Newsom.

He is survived by his wife Rosie Newsom, sons: Jack Newsom, Lee Newsom and wife Debra, daughter, Rosann Newsom, grandchildren; Leann Ale-Ebrahim and husband Jeremy, Brent Newsom and wife Beth, Stephen Newsom and wife Cassidy, great grandchildren; Aiden Ale-Ebrahim, Owen Ale-Ebrahim, Emerson Ale-Ebrahim, Brian Newsom, Katherine Newsom, Lucy Newsom, William Newsom, and Samuel Newsom.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, 6 to 8 P.M. at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Diana.

The family would like to say a special thank you to care givers, Helen Simon, D’Shae Hawkins, Brittani Birdsong, and Payton Knox. They would also like to thank Dr. Rick Earnest, nurses, April Edmonson, Sandra Epps, and Carrie Judd, FNP at Life Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers the donations can be made to Shriners Hospital.
