Services for Rev. Howard Whitfield, 88, formerly of Gilmer, will be held 10 AM Tuesday March 4, 2014, at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home, with Rev. William Carnley and Rev. Yankton Hatten officiating. Interment will follow at Hoover Cemetery in Upshur County. Howard was born April 4, 1925, in Bloomburg, TX, to John D. and Fannie Mae Whitfield. He seved as a minister for the Church of God for many years and also worked as a machinist. He was preceded in death by his wife: Billie; a son: Paul; brothers: Jessie and Chester and sisters: Hazel and Ruth. He is survived by his daughter: Mary Pittman of Gladewater; brothers: Curtis Whitfield of Longview and Jimmy Whitfield of Gilmer; a sister: Patricia Hillenbrandt of Orange; 8 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren Visitation will be at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer, Monday March 3, 2014 from 6-8 pm.
