Obituary for Maxine R. Gorman

Maxine R. Gorman, 96, went home to be with her Lord on February 13, 2022. Maxine lived life to the fullest. She loved the Lord first and foremost. She also genuinely loved meeting new people, making new friends and had a tremendous love and compassion for all animals.

Maxine was born February 16, 1925 in Marshall, Texas to William Oscar and Emily Flanigame Rogers. She attended Marshall schools and after graduation from Marshall High in 1942, she took a business/secretarial course which launched a career that carried her around the world. She took a position with the U.S. Department of Transportation as an administrative assistant in the Federal Aviation Administration. She lived and worked in Washington D.C., during World War II. After the war, she worked in several foreign countries for a number of years before returning to Washington D.C. Meanwhile, at 47 years of age, and after searching the world over, Maxine met the love of her life, Joseph D. Gorman. They were married on March 3, 1974. Maxine continued working until 1980 when she retired after 36 years and 8 months of distinguished service in the FAA.

Taking on retirement, the happy couple bought a motor home and for the next 5 years, proceeded to travel, seeing the U.S., parts of Canada and Alaska; golfing and making new friends along the way.

In 1988, the Lord led them back to East Texas where they settled next to the old home place of her parents in Diana, Texas. Maxine was an active member of Smyrna United Methodist Church, acting as historian for the church and cemetery, and was involved in many of the church and Sunday School activities. She served as an officer in the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and enjoyed playing golf regularly with numerous friends in the Alpine Ladies Golf Association.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe Gorman, two brothers, Willis Russell Rogers, William Oscar Rogers, Jr. a sister, Julia Hellberg and nephew, Jimmy Russell Rogers.

Those left to treasure her memory are her loving niece, Linda Vahle, a niece-in-love, Barbara Rogers, a great nephew, Bill Rogers and wife, Ashley, a new great-great nephew, Gunner Lee Rogers and a host of friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be at Smyrna United Methodist Church from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 12, 2022. Services will be held at the church at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Debby Brown. Interment will follow at Smyrna Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Smyrna Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 406, Harleton, Texas, 75651.
