Services for Herman E. Holcomb, 87, of West Mountain, will be 2PM Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at the Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Rev. Raymond Tenpenny officiating. Interment will follow at Glade Creek Cemetery. Mr. Holcomb passed away on Monday at his residence. Herman was born October 17, 1925 in Heflin, LA, to Thomas and Maude Holcomb. He served his country in the Marine Corps during WWII as a Staff Sergeant and was a decorated veteran. He later worked at Eastman Kodak as a Supervisor for 31 years and was a member of the Glade Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jerry Wayne Holcomb; a grandson, Darrell Everett Holcomb; 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Mr. Holcomb is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Helen Marie Koonce Holcomb; sons: Herschell Everett Holcomb, Ronald Herman Holcomb; daughters and sons-in-law: Betty Holcomb and Eddie Smith, Jennifer Holcomb and Kelly Hallman, Jessica Holcomb and Jared Taylor, Jerri Lynn Holcomb; a sister: Martha Nell Schmidt; 7 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 12 to 2PM before services at the funeral home.
