Obituary for Emerele "Bernie" Capps

Emerele (Bernie) Capps, age 88, formerly of Union Grove, was born July 9, 1932 in Chisholm, MN and passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020 from her battle with cancer at her home in Union Grove. She graduated from Chisholm High School in 1950. She went from there to join the WAF’s in San Antonio, Texas where she met the love of her life Willie George Capps. He was in the Air Force (as a Training Instructor) also stationed in San Antonio and they were married on August 25, 1951. She was sent on to New York but was honorably discharged when finding out she was about to become a mother. They went on to have a total of 5 children. The Capps family retired to East Texas after their last Military assignment in San Antonio, Texas to be near family.
Bernie Capps was preceded in death by her Husband Willie Capps, her parents, Joseph and Helen Zallar and In-Laws, Marvin and Eva Capps, 3 Brother-In-laws (Joe, Milton, and Marvin Jr.). Survived by her 2 sisters Marlene Zallar of Austin, Tx and Christine Fleming of Side Lake, MN., 5 children, George J. Capps and wife Camilla of San Antonio, Eva J. Greene of Clinton, NC., Debbie L. Watson of Gladewater (Union Grove), Tx., Anne Marie Cruce and husband Terry of Gilmer, Tx., and Drew E. Capps and wife Kathy of Gladewater (Union Grove), Tx., 9 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank Arabella of Longview where she has resided for the past 5 years. She made many friends and enjoyed playing pool, bingo and farkle. We appreciate everyone that made her feel welcome. We would also like to thank Texas Hospice for making her last days bearable for her and her family.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers make a donation in her name to Texas Hospice in Longview.
