Royce Carlton Plummer

DIANA: Graveside services for Royce Carlton Plummer, 91, formerly of Keithville, LA., will be at 1:30 P.M., Friday, October 6, 2017 at Walnut Creek Cemetery, with McKee Williams and Reverend Mickey Davidson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Diana. He passed away on Tuesday, October 03, 2017 in Dallas.

Royce was born October 16, 1925 in Ore City, Upshur County, Texas to Thomas J. Plummer and Ethel Rester Plummer. He graduated from Diana High School in 1944 and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II until 1946.

On September 22, 1950, he married Marguerite Reynolds in Marshall, Texas. At that time he was assistant manager at Beall Bros. department store in Marshall. They later moved to Louisiana, first to Ruston, then to Shreveport with Beall’s department stores. He was manager for the first Beall’s store in Bossier City, which opened in 1958. Royce later managed the Beall’s store in the Line Ave. Uptown Shopping Center.

He and wife owned and operated the Royce Plummer Polled Hereford Farm in Keithville, from 1960 to 1979. During that time, Royce initiated and served as organizing sponsor of the Louisiana Junior Polled Hereford Association, and remained the youth group advisor for several years. He regularly hosted the Agricultural Department classes at LSU-Shreveport, demonstrating pasture management and herd care and development. The Plummers also hosted field days for the Ark-La-Tex Polled Hereford Association, the Texas Polled Hereford Association and participated in state and national Polled Hereford Association activities. After retiring from Beall’s, he also served as a rural mail carrier for the Keithville Post Office for several years.

He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church since 1956, where he served as usher, deacon, and children’s sunday school teacher for many years.

Preceding him in death: both his parents, infant daughter: Mary Louise Plummer; his brother Ralph Plummer (died Feb. 29, 2004), and nieces Sherrie Plummer and Malinda Plummer.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Marguerite Plummer, sister-in-law: Linda Plummer of Diana, TX. niece: Patricia Plummer Davidson and husband, Mickey and children, Carrissa Davidson Hardage, her husband, Clint, and two children, Lilly and Layton; Charlton Will Davidson, his wife, Valerie, and son Maddox; Cassia Grace Davidson; Christian Joy Davidson; niece-in-law Dr. Sandi Petersen and her children Holli Petersen Park and husband Dr. James Park and son, JJ; Brandi Petersen Gruner and, husband, Sam, and children Clara and Ben, all of Dallas, TX; and, Luke Petersen and wife, Tawnyah and step-son, Duston, of Marshall, TX., special friend, Gerald Nunley of Hessmer, LA, as well as other nieces and nephews, many cousins and dear friends and neighbors in North Louisiana and East Texas.

The family request that memorials be made in his honor and memory to: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; Department of Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation; Walnut Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in Diana, Texas; or a charity of choice.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, October 6, 2017, 12 Noon until 1:00 p.m. at Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Diana.
